One way to have safer sex is to only have one partner who has no sexually transmitted infections
(STIs) and no other partners except you.
But, this isn't always the safest kind of sex. That's because most people don't know when they have infections.
They are very likely to pass them on without knowing it. Another other reason is that some people aren't as honest as they should be.
So most of us have to find other ways to practice safer sex.
Sex isn't just intercourse. There are a lot of other activities that we can do to express ourselves sexually that are
much safer than sex play that involved skin to skin contact. Vaginal and Anal intercourse are the most risky types of sex play,
but any sexual activity that involves skin to skin contact of the genital areas can spread a Sexually Transmitted Infection.
This includes oral sex and manual stimulation (or 'hand jobs'). Oral sex and hand jobs are usually considered to be safer than
intercourse. But any sexual activity that includes skin to skin contact can pass an STI such as genital warts or Herpes.
If you do decide to have intercourse, oral sex or other skin to skin contact you can protect yourself by using dental dams or condoms.
However, there are a lot of safe activities that you can take part in either by yourself or with a partner that are just as sexy
and satisfying, but pose little or no risk of passing an STI.
