Actions for Wellness in Canada for LGBT People
This document provides insight on GLBTT-SQ wellness at the national,
provincial and local levels. Each level includes what the Canadian
Rainbow Health Coalition (CRHC) offers to the GLBTT-SQ community in
terms of provision of services, education, and collaboration with and
promotion of a multitude of services and resources.
The national level focuses on providing countrywide resources which
are centered on queer health and wellness issues. The national level
also deals with researching and publishing best practice models of
service delivery to queer people. This level also highlights the importance of developing standards of culturally competent care as
well as the development of appropriate curricula materials on queer
health and wellness issues.
Provincially, the CRHC strives to analyze provincial policies and
services to make certain they include queer needs. Furthermore, the
CRHC is endeavouring to expand strategies to recognize phobias related
to gender identify and diversity as well as sexual orientation in the
development of policies and delivery of services.
At the local level, the CRHC is advocating for the provision of social
spaces, peer support programs as well as drop-in centers specifically
for GLBTT-SQ individuals. The CRHC also strives to identify gaps in
services within the community. The local level is also interested in
promoting things such as the positive space campaign as well as
providing training and education to organizations surrounding queer
health and wellness issues.
