Sexually Transmitted Infections
Today, there are many types of infections that can be spread through sex. These are called sexually transmitted infections or STIs.
Some are easily treated or cured, while others have no cure. Some can seriously affect your health or your ability to have children later in life. Some can cause cancer. AIDS is fatal.
In Canada, the highest rates and increases in STIs are in young people ages 15 to 24.
Sex is a normal and healthy part of our lives. However, if you're having sex, or are thinking about having sex, you need to know how to avoid sexually transmitted infections.
More facts and general information about STIs are available in our Parents' section.
